Some people have asked me what is the difference between genealogy and family history. To me, it is a simple answer. Genealogy involves tracing ones bloodline back through history with the use of a family tree of some description. Family History is that, plus more. Its finding out about the lives of the people in your tree, what they did for a living, how they lived, what kind of families did they marry into. The possibilities are endless, only limited by what you want to learn for yourself.

Examples of this from my family history can be found using the links above. Some are about my immediate family, whilst others are about ancestors long since gone. Other interesting discoveries that are not linked above include facts like:-

My Great-Aunts (paternal) children married into the family of the World War One poet Siegfried Sassoon. Although its not a blood link its still very interesting to me.

A Great-Uncle (maternal) fought in the Boer War. I'm still currently researching this.

My Grandfathers (paternal) brother is somehow linked to the rock/pop singer Marti Wilde. Again, I'm still researching this.

This is a list of surnames and places that I am currently researching.

Surname Place
Hancock Deptford
Williams Cornwall/Devon
Robinson Kensington
Oliver Kensington/Paddington
Lidstone Devon/Cornwall
Clouson Deptford
Andrews Deptford
Adams Haverfordwest
James Milford Haven
James Chelsea
Cooke Bury St Edmunds
Charman Paddington
Hodge Cornwall

If you have any link to any of these names feel free to contact me here.

As expected after all this research I have quite an extensive family and it would be impossible to name them all here. They are spread all over the country from Yorkshire down to Plymouth.

I have also added an interactive family tree click below to view (will open in a new window), plus a family photo album.

FAMILY TREE

Mum was a very loving person and would do anything for anyone. She loved animals, especially dogs and cats.

Over the past few years she had had a hard life. She was rushed to hospital back in 2000 and spent quite a while in a coma. She eventually came to and spent eight months undergoing rehab. She was reliant on a wheel chair and walking frame to get around. She came home in October of 2000 and spent most of her time watching TV, playing with the animals. She was taken care of by my brother Steve up until May 2003 when he got a job.

On the evening of Saturday 21st February 2004 whilst on route to the living room she collapsed in my arms and died. I did my best to bring her back but it wasn't to be.

A Requiem Mass took place at St Clements Church Notting Dale on Friday 5th March, 1pm. The service was conducted by Rev. Dr. Hugh Rayment-Pickard and Rev. Judith Roberts.

The service opened with one of my mum's favourite songs- Devil Woman by Cliff Richard and the service ended with Spirit in the Sky by Doctor and the Medics. The committal service took place at Mortlake Crematorium with music by The Beach Boys and Cliff Richard. At the end, a pair of white doves were released.

We love you and miss you mum..............always!

In the early to mid 80's my dad changed jobs....he'd been working for an upholstery company for a number of years doing a variety of jobs. This was to be a big change.

He joined London Transport and trained as a Bus Driver, and worked on the C1 bus between Victoria Station and Kensington High Street, and the C3 between Kensington High Street / Earls Court and Chelsea Harbour.

He also entered the London Bus Driver of the Year Contest a few years running and one year was runner-up and went into the National Finals at Blackpool and came 7th overall..

During the 1950's my dad and his family lived on the Mediterranean island of Malta. This was because my Grandad was a Royal Marine and was stationed on the island. They spent a couple of years there and until recently my dad had never been back.

Now, its almost like I can't keep him away from the place....he visits Mellieha at least twice a year and also arranged for my brother and his wife Clare, to spend their honeymoon in Malta.

On Saturday 6th August 2005 my brother, Stephen Hancock married Clare Oakley

at St. Augustine's Church, Slade Green, Kent.

The Reception was held at The Sportsman Club, Slade Green.

Family and friends of both Clare and Steve attended the occasion and all of our family and friends who have passed on were with us in spirit. A great time was had by all and vast amounts of alcohol consumed by most.

Congratulations to my brother and new sister-in-law, Mr & Mrs Hancock!

Clare also likes Pooh....Winnie that is! She is a big fan of Eeyore the Donkey which probably explains why she married Steve.

My niece Jessica, was born to my brother Steve and his wife Clare, at 11:55am on Monday April 2nd 2007.

The birth took place at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford, Kent.

Here are a few pictures of Jessica and I'll be charting her progress through time!

If you would like to send a welcome message to Jessica then you can email
